MUSICAL OPPORTUNITIES

FIRST NIGHTERS MERCH

Showcase your school spirit and bolster Yorktown High School’s performing arts! By shopping for your holiday gifts, you can also lend your support to the First Nighters! (some items shown below – more options on the order form!)

All orders are due by Wednesday, November 15, 2023, 5pm est. Please use the Google form link to order. Pick up will be directly from Yorktown High School in December.

FESTIVAL TRIPS ~ SAVE THE DATES!

It is my pleasure to announce our participation in the following 2024 music festivals! We are thrilled to offer these musical opportunities to our students!

WIND ENSEMBLE FESTIVAL TRIP

Students in the Wind Ensemble will participate in the 2024 Northeast Band Festival at Ithaca College in Ithaca, NY. Friday 5/3 through Sunday 5/5. Cost estimate is $575. More info TBA.

CONCERT BAND FESTIVAL TRIP – SAVE THE DATE!

Students in the Concert Band will participate in the 2024 Rhythms International Music Festival at Six Flags Great Adventure. Saturday 5/11. Cost estimate is $200. More info TBA.

WINTER CONCERT REMINDERS

§  Our YHS Band Winter Concert will take place Tuesday, December 12th at 7pm in the YHS auditorium. Students will be asked to arrive by 6:30pm (Jazz Band at 5:45pm) for sound check.

§  Students are asked to wear “Concert Black,” which is all black professional, dressy attire.

o   Ladies: Black dressy shirt. No sleeveless shirts or spaghetti straps. Appropriate necklines, please. Black dressy pants or skirt (below the knee when you sit down) and black dress shoes.

o   Gentlemen: Black dressy button-down long-sleeved shirt with a collar. Black dress pants. Black dress shoes. Black socks.

CITRUS SALE #20 – EXTENDED DATES AND REMINDERS

Thank you for supporting this important fundraiser! Monies raised will help us participate in our festival trips.

SALES SHIPPED TO YHS

Our “ship to organization” sales will stay open until Thursday 11/9 at 11:59pm. All “ship to organization” orders must be purchased on the website by then. 

SALES SHIPPED TO RECIPIENT 

Our USPS delivery sales will stay open until Sunday 12/10 at 11:59pm, via credit card only.The grove will guarantee delivery on these orders by 12/24. This is great for last minute holiday gifts!

STUDENT PAPERWORK WAS DUE IN CLASS 11/1

Students should have delivered their sales paperwork to me. This includes:

  • Teacher/staff sales sheet
  • Regular customer sales sheet
  • Completed the teacher/staff Google form

We will go over their completed on-line Google form, paperwork, and on-line summaries together to make sure orders are correct.

* Our citrus will be delivered on Thurs. 12/14.  Your student is responsible for picking up their entire order between 2:30 and 7:00pm at YHS, and then delivering to their customers.

GUIDED PRACTICE / JAZZ BAND SECTIONALS

Do you need help practicing your lesson HW assignment? Guided practice sessions are offered weekly and hosted by our junior and senior band members (thank you!). Students who lead or attend a session receive 1 point of extra credit. Sessions are held period 9, unless noted otherwise. Additionally, Ms Kluga is always available for help by appointment.

AREA ALL-STATE CONGRATS!

Congratulations to our YHS Music students who represented Yorktown as members of Area All-State this weekend; honor ensembles made up of the best student musicians in the county.

Bravo to Param Amre (percussion), Gillian Grabowski (horn), Esther-Anne Villamin (trumpet) George Whalen (trumpet), and Julia Whalen (flute/piccolo) on a beautiful concert performance!
