We all have busy schedules, but every performing group deserves an audience. Please support our students and stay for the entire concert.
Concert Band students are asked to please stay for the entire concert (similar to JV teams staying to support a Varsity game). An extra credit sign up sheet will be available at the reception.
To celebrate our student’s performance, and our senior’s final concert, we will host a reception in the cafeteria. Parent donations and help are needed – please refer to the e-mail from earlier this week (from parent organizer Margaret Serafin) for information on how you can help.
Participating students will receive their playing permits next week – they will need this piece of paper to register at NYSSMA. Please also remember to purchase an original of your solo on-line at www.jwpepper.com. NYSSMA will not allow your student to perform using a photocopy.
Participating students will sign up for a 10-minute audition slot next week. Ms. Kluga will explain the entire process in class. To prepare, students should be practicing their scales, solo, and sight-reading. Percussionists should be practicing their solos for timpani, snare, and mallets.
The First Nighters is a parent group whose mission is to support the YCSD Performing Arts programs. Each year they honor our junior and senior students at a Performing Arts awards banquet. Junior and senior students should have received an invitation (please let Ms. Kluga know if you have not). This year’s banquet will take place on Wednesday, May 24th at 7:00pm at the Putnam National Golf Course, and will include catered dinner, entertainment, and awards presentations. Please look “nice” as this banquet is honoring you and your achievements in the Arts. No jeans or sneakers. PLEASE RSVP BY MAY 15th.
Each year, the YHS Band participates in the town of Yorktown Memorial Day Parade. This is our most public event of the year, and is an important service for our Yorktown community. All YHS Band students are required to participate. Contact Ms. Kluga with questions. FYI: students will wear their YHS Band polo, long black pants (please no yoga pants, sweat pants, or leggings) and black shoes.
After our parade performance, all YHS Band students are invited to the Vespucci home for our 14th annual YHS Band Memorial Day BBQ. A sign-up sheet and information on how to contribute food for this event will be available in the coming weeks.
