PEP BAND THANKS!

Many thanks to the YHS Band students who braved the rain on Friday night to cheer on our Varsity Football team. Although the game did not go our way this time, it is always fun to spend time together and offer our musical support!

Thank you also to the parents who sent in snacks and water – the students always very much appreciate and enjoy your generosity!

TAG SALE THANKS!

Many thanks to everyone who helped make this weekend’s 16th annual Tag Sale such a success for our YHS music students!  Part fundraiser, part social event, part alumni reunion, our annual Tag Sale is always so much fun to be a part of.  With your help, we raised over $4,000!  Thanks to all who donated items, refreshments, or your valuable time!!

Special thanks to band parents Mrs. Aoukar, Mrs. Rindone and Mrs. Mezzancello for taking care of so many details behind the scenes to ensure that both days ran smoothly, to Mrs. Olener and Mrs. Tropp for their advertising expertise, and to Mrs. Griffiths and Mrs. Shenoy for organizing our parent volunteers!

STUDENTS SELECTED FOR AREA ALL-STATE

Congratulations to our YHS Band students who will represent Yorktown as members of Area All-State this week; honor ensembles made up of the best student musicians in Westchester.

Bravo to Param Amre (percussion), Gillian Grabowski (horn), Esther-Anne Villamin (trumpet), George Whalen (trumpet), and Julia Whalen (flute)! These students will begin rehearsals this Wednesday, and perform a concert in November.

JAZZ BAND IS THURSDAY 10/19

Impressive rehearsal this week! Loved your progress on rhythms and your positive attitude towards beginning improvisation. Rehearsals are 7:00-8:30 in the YHS Band Room. Jazz Band students are asked to arrive by 6:50 so we can be warmed up and tuned to start promptly at 7:00.  Music, recordings, and this week’s HW are all available on Dashboard.

CITRUS SALE

The citrus sale is underway! Ordering information is available on Dashboard, and in paper form in the Band Room.

In 2019, our best sale ever, our music students SOLD 1,498 boxes and earned a PROFIT of $21,820.

Our website is accepting orders until 11/1/22. All orders will be delivered in time for the holiday season.

VIDEO ASSESSMENT #1

This week, students will experience their first video assessment of the year.  Ms Kluga will film each student individually at their lesson and offer verbal and written feedback. Instructions on how to prepare for this assignment were reviewed in class, and are available on Dashboard.

This assessment will act as a baseline to help the student and Ms Kluga form a learning plan – what musical concepts they are confident in, and what concepts they will focus on improving.
