Juniors Ichiro Iizuka and Devin Robinson were honored to perform taps at two Yorktown Veterans Day ceremonies this weekend (one at the Hart Library, and one at Veterans Memorial Circle). Thank you both for lending your musical talents and time, thank you to our community for the opportunity, and to our Veterans for their service!
The students and I watched this short video in class together this week. I love how it breaks down the concepts of what we do, and reinforces our daily work on skills, and my daily reminders that short, focused, practice sessions lead to success!
Do you need help practicing your lesson HW assignment? Guided practice sessions are offered weekly and hosted by our junior and senior band members (thank you!). Students who lead or attend a session receive 1 point of extra credit. Sessions are held period 9, unless noted otherwise. I am also always available for help by appointment.

Please join me before school (from 7:10…or whenever you get off the bus… until the first bell) to practice improvising. Help yourself develop your skills and a plan for success!
Thank you for supporting this sale – I am trying my best to create multiple fundraising opportunities for the benefit of all (Tag Sale, Citrus Sale, Swing Dance). The Citrus sale is our largest fundraiser and can have the most impact on bringing down the costs of our festival trips. Please support our cause!
I will print out updated sales reports this week for each student.

Such a fun YHS Band tradition! Winners from each class will receive part of my citrus order.
Congratulations to our YHS Music students who represented Yorktown as members of Area All-State this weekend; honor ensembles made up of the best student musicians in the county.
Bravo to juniors Gillian Grabowski (horn) and Selma Lyons (trumpet) on a beautiful concert performance with the AAS Concert Band!
On Tuesday morning, I had an unexpected issue at home and needed to take part of the day. I’d like to give a shout out to our Concert Band students for running their own rehearsal in my absence. Students helped each other get organized and successfully play through our daily exercise routine, and one of our songs. Thank you all for demonstrating excellent citizenship and musicianship! Special thanks to juniors Michael Mezzancello and Austin Georgescu for conducting.
Thank you to the 30 YHS Band students who turned out to support our Varsity Football team for their first playoff game. Friday evening was a great win and great fun!
Thank you so much to the parents who so generously sent in snacks, water, and hot chocolate – the students always very much appreciate and enjoy your generosity!
I made two epic typos in last week’s update – BOTH festival dates were not correct. (Although – both dates are listed correctly in our Band Handbook, which I shared in September…)
Please add these corrected festival dates to your family calendar:
