Donation drop-off is THIS FRIDAY 10/14 from 2:30–7:00pm, YHS Band Room.  We are asking for donations of items to sell (kitchen items, clothing, furniture, DVD’s, books, etc.); what a great opportunity to scour your homes for un-used items and do some autumn cleaning!  It would be helpful if you could please bring donations pre-sorted by type of item. Parent volunteers are needed!  Especially: from 11-2 and from 1-3 on Saturday (please, with sugar on top?), and hot food items for dinner on Friday/ lunch Saturday, and baked goods for our bake sale table.  Please see the e-mail from parent-organizers Cindy Scinto and Theresa Ryan-Onatzevitch ([email protected]) to see how you can help.

Student volunteers are also needed especially Saturday 1-3pm.  Students are also encouraged to bake items for our bake sale table.  There are student sign up sheets in the band room.

Citrus Sale

The Citrus Sale is our largest fundraiser!  Last year we sold over 1600 boxes of citrus fruit and made a PROFIT of over $26,000!  Please help us make this year’s sale even more successful!  Information was distributed and reviewed in class last week, and is attached FYI.  As the sale benefits everyone, we ask that all band students please sell at least 7 boxes.

Citrus Sale

October is fundraising month in the YHS Music Department.  Each year, the YHS Bands and Orchestras each participate in regional music festivals.  Our fundraisers help students defray the cost of their participation in these musical activities. Part of the proceeds will also benefit the YHS Music Boosters “general fund” which is used to cover chaperone costs and purchase items that benefit the entire program.

You might be wondering, “What would I possibly do with a 20 pound box (…or…*gasp*… a 40 pound box…!) of citrus?”  As strange as it seems, this fundraiser is extremely successful, with many repeat customers, because of its quality, economy, and shelf-life.  The fruit is literally picked straight off the trees in Florida, loaded into a truck, and arrives at our school about 36 hours later.  Mrs. Kluga purchases two 40 pound boxes each year for her little family, and they enjoy the citrus through February (She keeps it in her garage).  Mrs. Kluga also send boxes via USPS as holiday gifts.  So, there’s her sales pitch.  It really is a great product and a great fundraiser.  Mrs. Kluga is happy to answer any questions!

Please Save These Citrus Dates!!!

* The citrus sale ENDS on Tuesday 11/1.

* Our TONS of citrus will be delivered Monday 12/19.  Your student is responsible for picking up their entire order between 2:30 and 7:00pm at YHS.

Band Lesson Homework

You should hear your student practicing at home.  Each week every band student receives a lesson homework assignment that will be graded.  Students are always welcome to practice during their free periods or after school.  If your student would like extra help, Mrs. Kluga is always available.
