TAG SALE A SUCCESS!

After sorting through and organizing mountains of “stuff” Friday afternoon and evening (the donations were truly overwhelming, thank you so much!!), we kicked off our sale at 9am Saturday and enjoyed a steady stream of customers throughout the day.  In all we made over $3,100 in profit (and the special band & orchestra memories, of course, were priceless…)  None of this would have been possible without your help and support; many thanks to all who donated items, refreshments, or your valuable time to help make this endeavor a success!

Also, many special thanks to band parents Kelly Bard, Adriana Beaudreault, MariaElaina Cirone, Lisa Kyer, Laura Lee Milhaven, Anne McKeown, Theresa Ryan-Onatzevitch, Lisa Statler, Stacey Warren, Jennifer Weitman and Deborah Woodard for their tireless organizational, logistical, and advertising expertise!!

SPECIAL THANKS to band parent Theresa Ryan-Onatzevitch and orchestra parent Melissa Montaruli for their amazing work organizing all of the parent volunteers and working out so many of our logistical and planning details behind the scenes.  In addition, SPECIAL THANKS to Adriana Beaudreault and MariaElaina Cirone for securing bountiful food donations for our volunteers, and Lisa Kyer and Stacey Warren for securing the local charity Green Drop, to whom we donated all our remaining items.

Our goal is to use this information to help make your year(s) and overall experience here better and more fun. To make this as accurate as possible, we ask that you please respond as truthfully as you can, as we take these answers highly into consideration so that we may create the best year possible. No matter who you are, please do not feel afraid to have a voice! Your voice is valued and appreciated, even if there are criticisms. After all, it takes feedback to better sculpt our program. Thanks! We look forward to seeing your responses!

PLEASE SAVE THESE CITRUS DATES!

* The citrus sale ENDS on Tuesday 10/31.  Envelopes are due in class on Wednesday 11/1

YCSD PHONE “ON-HOLD” MUSIC

Mrs. Kluga is excited to announce that a recording of our YHS Jazz Band is now the YCSD phone system “on-hold” music!  The recording is from our Spring Concert 2017 (“Sonny’s Place”).  Thank you so much for the opportunity, Dr. Hattar!

VIDEO ASSESSMENT #1

This week, students will experience their first video assessment of the year. Students are videotaped performing their homework assignment, and assessed on their ability to demonstrate the musical concepts we have covered so far.  This assessment will act as a base-line for the start of our year together, and help the student and Mrs Kluga form a learning plan – what musical concepts they are confident in, and what concepts they will focus on improving. You will receive your child’s video and score sheet via e-mail.

CITRUS SALE

October is fundraising month in the YHS Music Department.  Each year, the YHS Bands and Orchestras each participate in regional music festivals.  Our fundraisers help students defray the cost of their participation, and part of the proceeds also benefit the YHS Music Boosters “general fund” which is used to cover chaperone costs and purchase items that benefit the entire program.

The Citrus Sale is our largest fundraiser!  Last year we sold over 1,900 boxes of citrus fruit and made a PROFIT of over $20,000!  Please help us make this year’s sale even more successful!  Information will be distributed and reviewed in class this week, and is attached FYI.  As the sale benefits everyone, we ask that all band students please sell at least 5 boxes.

You might be wondering, “What would I possibly do with a 20 pound box (…or…*gasp*… a 40 pound box…!) of citrus?”  As strange as it seems, this fundraiser is extremely successful, with many repeat customers, because of its quality, economy, and shelf-life.  The fruit is literally picked straight off the trees in Florida, loaded into a truck, and arrives at our school about 36 hours later.  Mrs Kluga purchase two 40 pound boxes each year for her little family, and we enjoy the citrus through February (Mrs Kluga keeps it in her garage).  Mrs Kluga also send boxes via USPS as holiday gifts.  So, there’s our sales pitch.  It really is a great product and a great fundraiser.  Happy to answer any questions!
