SUPPORT THE YCSD ARTS! BECOME A FIRST NIGHTER!!

The First Nighters is a parent group whose mission is to support the YCSD Performing Arts programs.  Each year they invite parents to help their cause!   Some of their initiatives include:

  • Advocating for and supporting the arts programs in all schools.
  • Purchasing supplies for the arts programs in all schools.
  • Providing yearly scholarships to outstanding seniors.
  • Honoring Performing Arts juniors and seniors at an annual recognition dinner. 

APPLE PICKING @ WILKEN’S FARM

Today 40 YHS Band students enjoyed a social outing to Wilken’s Farm!  Students had fun apple picking, eating cider donuts, and making “Bandtastic” memories.  Many thanks to Band Officers Thomas Mitchell (’23) and Chinmay Satpute (’22) for organizing this trip. Many thanks as well to the group of Band parents who helped chaperone – the students and Ms. Kluga appreciate your time and support! Photos attached for you to enjoy.

BAND LESSONS

Will begin this week. The September lesson calendar is attached. Wind Ensemble students are in group 1’s. Concert Band students are in group 2’s. If you have questions about this important part of your student’s grade in Band, please review the YHS Band Handbook or contact Ms. Kluga.

MUSICAL ACCESSORIES

Please bring these supplies to your Band lesson this week.  The list of musical accessories can be found in our handbook.

JAZZ BAND AUDITIONS

Auditions will take place Wednesday 9/22 from 1:35 – 3:00. Requirements and sign-ups are available in the Band room.  Weekly rehearsals will begin the week of 9/27 on a day and time TBA.  

Returning Jazz Band students do not need to audition, but are required to attend the meeting at 1:35 on 9/22.

HOMECOMING 10/1

We are looking forward to our next Pep Band outing, which is Homecoming on Friday 10/1. Band BBQ at 5pm, game at 7pm. More details will follow. All YHS Band students are welcome!  This is a great way to support our football team and earn extra-credit! 

TAG SALE

Our annual Music Boosters Tag Sale is back! Please save your stuff to donate.  Our sale is Saturday 10/16 from 9am-2pm outdoors in the tent and courtyard adjacent to the YHS Library.  We will be accepting donations on Friday 10/15 from 3-7pm.  Tell your friends and neighbors!  Parent and student volunteers will be needed to make this event a success.  Look for an e-mail in the coming weeks to find out how you can help. A flyer is attached.

PARENTS HELP NEEDED

Also via registration, you will receive periodic e-mails from our Band Aid Core Helpers (BACH) parent organization ([email protected]) informing you of ways that you can volunteer at our events.  If you are interested, there are many ways you can be involved!

And, if you are interested in becoming part of the core group of parents who plan and run events, please e-mail Mrs. Kluga.

It was so much fun welcoming back our awesome music students at our 20th annual Ice Cream Social! Many thanks to our student leaders and parent volunteers for their help making this event a success! Photo attached.

Many thanks to our awesome team of student leaders for hosting this annual event!  Our 40 freshmen students were welcomed to their first day with bagels, muffins, and plenty of smiles.  A photo is attached.

PEP BAND VS BREWSTER

Many thanks to the 30 YHS Band students who turned out on Friday night 9/10 to support our Varsity Football team! We had fun playing music together and collaborating with YHS Cheer and the “Crop.” A photo is attached.

What: Apple Picking at Wilken’s Farm in Yorktown

When: Sunday 9/19

Report Time: Meet AT WILKEN’S at 10:00am. Wear your YHS Band polo.

End Time: Approximately 12:00 noon

COST: $12 cash (includes a half-peck of apples, hot apple cider, 1 cider doughnut, and priceless band memories :).

Interested in attending?  Please bring in $12 cash and sign up in the Band Room by Wednesday 9/15.
